Education
Our quality education program is the cornerstone of our preschool program.
We have highly educated, caring teachers and teacher's assistants in each of
our classrooms. Our teachers provide a nurturing, safe environment
in which students are taught the skills they need to succeed when they reach
Kindergarten.
Health and Nutrition
Because a healthy child can learn better than an unhealthy child, we
do many things to ensure the health of our students. Each child receives
two nutritious meals (or 1 meal and a complete snack) per day. Each child is
required to have a complete physical and dental exam, as well as hearing and
vision tests. Our nurse works with families to provide education about the
nutritional needs of children as well as any other health concerns they may
have.
Family Services
Each family is assigned a Family Service Specialist who becomes the
family's primary contact at Head Start. This Family Service Specialist helps the
family identify goals and helps them to accomplish the goal. The Family
Service Specialists also provide resources and referrals to assist families as
needed.
Mental Health
We currently have a Licenced Mental Health Therapist on staff to assist
families in areas of need. We also have a contract with the local Mental
Health Center to provide services as needed.
Parent Involvement
The Wild Plum Center recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers
in their chidren's lives. Parents are encouraged to participate in all
aspects of their children's education from volunteering in the
classroom to participating in our many activities. Our Policy Council is a
group of parents who act as a governing body over our program. The
Policy Council must approve staff changes, program policy changes and the
program budget.
Transportation
Parents are encouraged to transport their children to and
from school when they are able. The Wild Plum Center will provide bus
transportation for families that have no other means of getting their
children to school.
